Vegeta Bulma Moments Episode

New books

As usual, I share here the new acquisitions:
- formula favorite teacher by Yoko Ogawa. A book I did not know until I heard speak well of him in a couple of blogs: Blanks ... Read and unhurried (both in the sidebar of this page.) Synopsis of the book here.
- Chronicle of a Death Foretold , by Gabriel García Márquez. I have read it already, and the truth is that I find very good book, I was reconciled to García Márquez after The Love in the Time of Cholera , it is not my favorite Colombian.
- Nobody lit the lamps of Felisberto Hernández. An author who had heard quoting other writers and I have curiosity to read.
- The Sorrows of Young Werther of Goethe. A classic, what to say.

- The vain yesterday, Isaac Rosa. A novel that gave a lot to talk when it was published some years ago and made Isaac Rosa on the front page of English literature. Was awarded the Rómulo Gallegos, who also won, to give two examples, The Savage Detectives and Tomorrow in the Battle Think on Me .

May you all a good week.

Granny With High Heels

Two women in Prague

time ago I read, I do not remember where, that a significant percentage of contemporary English novels had as main ingredient someone died or were set in the Civil War. This novel by Juan Jose Millas belongs to the percentage remaining.

"One morning you wake up and realize that it is too late for everything," read one of your pages. The narrative focuses on characters and Alvaro Luz perhaps April. Álvaro gives or teaches in a writing workshop is now offering a new service: the writing of biographies on request. The enigmatic Luz contracts its services to Álvaro write his biography, a biography that, like all of us understand of course, is full of truths and lies, what we were but also what we only dared to imagine and finally not occur. On leaving the workshop, José María Luz knows, who wears a patch over his right eye because he wants to write a novel left-handed, and for this you must first see how see the world from that perspective.

The narrator tells the story in first person, even if it is discovered walking the pages, at first it seems that everything is narrated in third. The fourth character, the narrator, is being documented to write a book about adoption. As Álvaro April knows, their history is linking with Alvaro and Light.

The novel is written in a simple, colloquial, with a proximity to orality been easy. Two women in Prague mi come to show us that our lives are a mixture consisting of fact and fiction, warns us of the importance of things we imagine and did not become. The unlived life is almost as much weight as the real:

"I thought then that each of us carries within a" what not ", ie something that has not happened and yet more weight in your life that "yes," what has happened. (...) Many of the mothers who had delivered their babies had a mother false after a happy life (...) but the most important of all child was "no." Everyone has a wound that festers a "what not" no "so yes, by extraordinary it is, manages to stitch."

Miller managed to weave stories capable of catching the daily reader. The theme of fatherhood is very much in the novel as well as the mix between reality and fiction. I noticed a sentence: "It did not seem credible in fiction, yet it had happened in reality." And sometimes, you do not know if I passed, hear or read a story or something so surprising to us that, if invented, no one would. Moreover, Two women in Prague Spring won the Novel Prize in 2002.

How To Start 1979 Triumph Bonneville

Salinger, with Rulfo and Juan de la Cruz, is one of those authors with a work so admired as rare. If I'm correct, are only five books that make up the entire production: The Catcher in the Rye , Franny and Zooey, Nine Stories , Seymour: An Introduction and Lift, carpenters, roof beam . Since a few years ago I read The Guardian ... had not returned to peering at a book of this longtime American author, who died last year aged 91, but after enjoy Franny and Zooey, I made the firm decision to read his work.

Without being a frantic thriller or have anything special, Franny and Zooey (1955) has caught me from the start. It shows some members of the Glass family, who reside in a building in Manhattan: Franny, twenty years is the youngest daughter of Glass, while Zooey, twenty, is the second of seven siblings in the family.

The story is structured in two parts. As you might guess from the title, one corresponding to Franny and Zooey another. Franny must say that also appears in the part of Zooey, it is she who takes on more importance. The second story complements the first and completes its meaning. The first part takes us to a university environment, and revolves around a conversation between Franny and her boyfriend during a meal. The dialogue is very natural, honest sound, rich in nuances and shows complex characters, believable. Franny were dissatisfied, disillusioned, and criticizes the artificiality of the academic environment in which it moves. Among other things, said he was "sick of ego," "sick of pedants and conceited." Lately it is rare, it seems on the verge of collapse intimate. Through a small crisis, a crisis that is also about a book, The Russian pilgrim who Franny says he got from the library. Is fascinated by the spiritual air, and even mystical, which follows the book. Salinger shown here is well acquainted with concepts of Eastern spirituality. Zooey

attempt with words to help Franny in this crisis that happens. The novel progresses in a very fluid, like a breath of air. We found a simple plot, with much dialogue and little action, almost as if they were theatrical scenes.

I find a book that may not like it at all (can not meet the expectations of some, to give an impression of lightness), but if you sympathize a little with the small of Reading Glass at risk of becoming a delight. We will be playing or not the fiber depending on the type of player we are. This is almost like saying nothing, but it is. I liked it, I say that too. And it's clear that there are more than Salinger The Catcher in the Rye , so I'll keep reading.

Kirkland Cedar Dog Bed

Dawn

Dawn in New York has four columns

silt and a hurricane
black pigeons splashing in putrid waters.
Dawn in New York
groans on enormous fire escapes
searching between the angles
nard of anguish.
Dawn arrives and no one receives it in his mouth
because there is no tomorrow and hope possible.
sometimes furious swarming coins
drill and devour abandoned children.
The first to leave their bones
that there will be no love without leaves paradise:
know they will be mired in numbers and laws,
to mindless games, in fruitless labors.
Light is buried under chains and noises in
impudent challenge of rootless science.
Through the suburbs sleepless people stagger
as straight out of a shipwreck of blood.

Federico García Lorca, Poeta en Nueva York .

comment Proposal

"Dawn" is one of the most emblematic poems Poeta en Nueva York , a book Lorca is influenced by surrealism. The author moves to New York in 1929 (the year of the great crisis, the Wall Street crash, the suicide). Coming from a small town, as it was then Granada, Lorca felt buildings admired by the great city (Harlem was impressed, especially jazz), but also will criticize the materialism, the capitalist economic system, slavery of men in this town, exploitation, racism. In vacuum owners, Luis García Montero writes Poeta en Nueva York "poison inside the symbols of hope." It is what we see in this poem, a description of dawn New York that is not presented as something beautiful: the morning twilight is already infected at the center. In the poem the author expresses by this description of their horror at the cruelty and stifling way of life that overrides the human, expresses bewilderment existential, the uprooting of the inhabitants of the city when the day begins. There is no division into stanzas, but you can differentiate different parts. Verses 1-8 are like two stanzas headed "dawn" to describe this morning. In verse 9 is introduced and the inhabitants of the city, who lead the rest of the verses, except the 17-18. García Montero writes that "the dizzying stream of images leads us to a negative feeling desolate." The poem we spread a sense: if you look at the lexicon (silt, hurricane, black, rotten, whining, anxiety, no, angry, drill, eat, left ...) and particulate matter (without, des, or, in), which often deny concepts of positive connotations, we note that all goes in one direction. The symbols of hope appear destroyed. These columns of silt allude to the architecture of the city and its skyscrapers. The doves (symbol of peace, the Holy Spirit in the Christian religion) are here a destructive hurricane and are black, perhaps because of the smoke. Water purifying element is rotten, stagnant. This is no sign of life quite the contrary. Here is personified dawn, that "groans" looking "spikenard", a natural element. That search was fruitless suspect living in a city back to nature. When we read "no one receives it in his mouth", you may be referring, although there are different interpretations, to the consecrated host, which has the same circular shape of the rising sun. And, as no one receives, there is no hope, no heaven, it is a real hell. The children, who represent the hope for the future, have the heart drilling, are devoured by commercialism, by these bees seem metal coins. Later he speaks of "mired in numbers and laws." In this connection, in another poem of the book we read that "under the multiplication / drop of blood is a duck" (again, the struggle between natural and the artificial, the civilization that destroys nature.) The author portrays a world in which work can not reap the rewards. Light, another positive sign, (the triumph of Reason in the eighteenth century of lights) appears buried here, and science has lost its roots. "There is no denying science, but which has no roots" (García-Posada). Science has lost its link with nature and has destroyed the natural harmony of man with the world. Points to a culprit of this degradation: money, unbridled commercialism. And finally there is the devastating image of people walking insomniac (a city without sleep and without dreams), alienated, "as fresh from a shipwreck of blood. " This is as we have seen a very visual poem, a denunciation of the dark side of capitalism and the industrial world of scientific progress that forgets the human progress.

Blood Donation Period

outrageous A man who sleeps Agnes Obel-Philharmonics

Lees an author that you find interesting, the author refers to another author that interests him and think that the second author may also be of interest to you. And indeed, it happens. You see, the world, after all, is not so wrong.

is no more or less what I happened to Georges Perec. Taking into account the views enthusiastic about his work of Enrique Vila-Matas and Roberto Bolaño, two authors that I find quite exciting, you could say has been too long until I looked out one of the books of French. leaving for later life, instructions, made a first foray into narrative of this singular author A man who sleeps (1967), one of Perec's novels has been good enough to rescue the editorial Impedimenta.

The book opens with a quote from Kafka that does not seem useless to reproduce here: "No need to leave home. Stay at your table and listen. Not even listen, only wait. Not even wait, stay all alone and in silence. The world will come to you to be unmasked, it can not stop and fell prostrate at your feet ecstatic. "A few lines that give us a clue which way the shots in this novel. Its protagonist is a student of twenty years, supporting the "rather not" the mythical character of Melville, he decides, without premeditation, did not get out of bed the day of its review of sociology. Not wanting to continue, stop going to class, to see his friends and is dedicated to the contemplative life. Are held in his garret, read, sleep, wash your clothes, look at the cracks in the ceiling, listening to the noise floor neighbor.

so makes his intentions: "Out of all projects, all impatience. To be without desire, without vexation, without rebellion. Appear before you, the thread of time, a still life, no crisis, no mess, no roughness, no imbalance. Minute after minute, hour after hour, day after day, season after season, something that will never end will start: your plant life, your life is void. "Begins thus a kind of lifeless life, invisible. Faced with the prevailing idea of success, compared to large projects, is dedicated to live without many aspirations. Runs like a sleepwalker, mostly at night, the streets of Paris, go to the movies, meets the pastimes of the newspaper, playing cards just going to the library ...

"... you're going to evolve all, decoupling of everything. Discover, sometimes almost with a kind of intoxication, you're free, you weigh nothing, or you like or dislike you (...) Experience total rest, are, at all times, guarded, protected. You live in a happy parentheses in a void full of promises that do not expect anything. Are invisible, clear, transparent. No longer exist ... "

distancing, detachment ... As you have noted, the book is narrated in second person, you could say something original, at least unusual, which favors the split. Abound in the novel enumerations, one element that gives the narrative rhythm.

This way of life of the protagonist, whose name is unknown, it is revealed finally unsatisfying, attempt. Read thus that indifference does not teach anything that has not learned anything. "The world has moved and you have not changed," he says.

Chronicle of insucedido , A sleeping man was not exactly what I expected, but I think an interesting proposition for those looking different from other books. Continue reading Perec.

film adaptation of the novel, self-titled, has the script by Perec. A fragment of the film by clicking here .

Earlier I alluded to Bartleby, the Scrivener. In the novel, Perec refers to the famous character created by Herman Melville, but did not name:

"Some time ago, in New York, a few hundred yards from the piers where they beat the last waves of the Atlantic a man left to die. He worked as a clerk for a lawyer. Hidden behind a screen, sat at his desk and never moved. He ate gingerbread. I looked out the window a blackened brick wall that almost could have touched with hand. It was useless to ask what it was, that releyese a text or go to post. Neither threats nor entreaties exercising power over him. In the end, he was almost blind. We had to catch him. Was installed in the stairwell of the building. Then they locked him up, but sat in the courtyard of the jail and refused to eat. "

Is it clear, no?

Best Sanitary Ware In India

In the city Sylvia

The City of Sylvia (2007) is the fifth feature film by English filmmaker Jose Luis Guerin . Presented at the Venice Film Festival, this experimental film focuses on the story of a young artist, who wanders the streets of Strasbourg observed in contemplative plan. In this trip you will find Sylvia, a woman he fell in love with for some time.

is a slow film, of silence (in this sense it reminded me of the Korean Iron 3, in which the first words of the film is rather to say Finally, if I remember correctly), very static shot (there is little camera movement) and little action (one could say that all the footage not almost nothing happens.) A tone abstracted, preoccupied, soak it all. Is a poetic portrait of daily life in the city, small gestures do not see, as we always go fast. One is carried away by the hypnotic rhythm of the film, in the obsessive search for the protagonist.

I think the less interesting proposal. Guerin must thank the attempt to do something different from other, outside of convention, but it is also true that many people may get bored.

best: slow dancing proposed, its evocative air. Worst: can be repetitive and may not leave a large residue. It is also said that the protagonist is a bit naive.

Bacterial Infection Of Throat And Tongue

Paris / The place

and Paris Place are the second and third volumes of the trilogy involuntary Uruguayan writer Mario Levrero. I said in a previous post the enthusiasm that had produced the first title, City. Well, the rest of the trilogy to me that I'm an author interesting and I think unjustly little known, even if you have completed the first doctoral dissertation on her life and after his death in 2004 most of his books are editing. One thing to note: The site was written in 1969 and is not thirteen years later when published.

And say, why is called "involuntary" trilogy? Well it seems to be because Levrero not proposed in advance to write a trilogy, but the third title when he finished he realized he had written three books with similar themes (urban environment, solitary protagonist immersed in a world dominated by forces do not understand), so decided to call it involuntary.

The second title, the protagonist arrives at a Paris stranger, taxis filled with cobwebs and a layer of dust covering everything. The author invented in this context a series of images that grow uncontrollably in the reader's imagination. The book caused a delicious sense of strangeness.

The place fascinated me more than Paris, although I must say that Levrero maintains the highest standards throughout the trilogy. The final volume reminds The Invention of Morel of Bioy Casares. In his argument does not say anything to not destroy its great capacity to surprise. It is an intriguing story supported over the cracks left by the reality. But Levrero not provide answers to questions posed by his novels, just leave them there for the reader decide for himself, and his characters lack strong certainties.

On the back of one volume, is a quote from Oliver Levrero Coelho speaks as a writer of ghostly. I think a good definition of the effect of creating his novels, which have the atmosphere of a dream.

Only these three books, Mario Levrero I find an author to take into account. The trilogy is one of the readings that surprised me most last year. Now I have to go with an empty discourse , The light novel ...

What Mouthwash Should I Drink To Get Drunk

Van't Hoff's hair

"And whenever I talked or thought about the Nobel Prizes had for Van't Hoff. Moreover, it is possible that it will begin to talk or think about the Nobel Prizes, then count the case of Van't Hoff. Because he enjoyed counting for Van't Hoff. Enjoyed.

A Van't Hoff was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1901. The first Nobel Prize in Chemistry. The world. Jacobus Henricus. Van't Hoff. That was his full name. Jacobus Henricus. Van't Hoff's name. Friends call him otherwise securely. The family, uncles, mother children, otherwise. After he died in 1911, probably in Berlin. With 59 years. [....] But Matthew was not interested in those things. There were more than data. All that. Data. A Matthew was interested, above all, a photograph of Van't Hoff. A photograph: Van't Hoff appeared only in the picture, and I had, much less 59 years, or even 58. Would 35-40. Or maybe two more. And that means that the photograph was a photograph of the nineteenth century. And in the nineteenth century people did not make many photographs. Half a dozen in all life, at best. As much. So they put terribly elegant for photographs. Also Van't Hoff appeared terribly elegant photography. But that was not the most impressive of the photograph. The most impressive of the photograph was that Van't Hoff had not been combed. Van't Hoff's hair was a mess on the left side of the head. With exaggeration. As if he had gotten out of bed before seven seconds. And someone has to have much personality to choose not to comb when you know perfectly well that not going to do more than one, two, three shots in his life. And Van't Hoff appears in all encyclopedias, biographies and science books in the world with wild hair on the left side of the head, as if it were always out of bed seven seconds before someone opened the encyclopedia or biography or science book. And Van't Hoff was Nobel Prize in Chemistry and should sleep very well because if it is not difficult to have hair as raised on the left side of the head. In the nineteenth century.

why he was so fond Matthew Van't Hoff. For his personality. By the personality that had Van't Hoff, not combing the day of photography. And Matthew used to decide that he was so fond of Van't Hoff and their aunts. A aunts. Not Van't Hoff's aunts, of course. At his own. "

Unai Elorriaga, Van't Hoff's hair .
